JANUARY FLIP FLOPS – POOL CARE WHEN WINTER WEATHER SEEMS LIKE FLIP FLOP SEASON

JANUARY FLIP FLOPS – POOL CARE WHEN WINTER WEATHER SEEMS LIKE FLIP FLOP SEASON

What are January Flip Flops?  Well, besides the comfy summer shoes that we’re wearing year-round this year, Flip Flop is the name of the game for our weather this winter.  Cold and wet (Yay, boots, and sweaters!) and then – FLIP – right back to summer weather with temps in the 70s and 80s (Yay, too, because we do like our flip-flops!)

Add in some rainstorms every few days, though, and what you get is a pool in serious need of some Winter Water Care.  Even if …. Especially if … it seems more like spring, trouble could be brewing.  You’ll be so glad you nipped it in the bud when swim season begins.

These elevated and flip-flopping winter temps mean your winterization chemicals are working harder than anticipated.  The pool is likely using more chlorine than usual, and algae could become a problem.

This goes for traditional chlorine pools and salt pools, too.  Since the salt generator is extracting chlorine from salt, you need to make sure you’re adding sufficient salt and algicide to keep your water healthy.

The fastest way to know how your winter chemicals are holding up is to bring a pint of pool water to your local Sabine Pools store for a free pool water analysis.

This is also a great time to change your filter sand, or (if you are in the Lake Charles or Lafayette trade area) schedule our Service Department to do it by calling 800-960-7665.  Remember, filter sand should be changed at least every 3rd season, with regular cleanings in between.  Good, clean filtration is the key to clear, sparkling, blue water.  Beat the spring rush now and be one step closer to opening your pool this spring – when we put those flip flops back on for good!
